INTRODUCTION

  • Nyamughasana Valley Farmers Cooperative society is a farmer based and farmer used cooperative with its main objective as “Povert reduction among the rural active poor in Bukonzo ccounty-Kasese district“. The cooperative was started in 2000 with only 14 members, a book and a pen.  

HONEY

Processing honey which we market as “Alpine Honey (as it comes from the Rwenzoris)”  and other bees products have remained our main products.  Read more……..

COFFEE

With time, however, the members incorporated in the business other products like coffee to increase on the profits of the cooperative and this was in 2004.

MICRO-FINANCE

To find a lasting solution to finance that had become a big problem, the members also started a savings and credit scheme in 2008.

Further more, the cooperative has started a new project of producing castor oil which is still in its youthful stages.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

The cooperative carries out activities that protect the environment and making it more useful to the community. These include;

ECO-TOURISM

The cooperative carries out responsible travels to natural areas conserving the environment, supporting the flora, fauna and local economy, and improving the well being of the local people. Its purpose is to educate the traveler;

The cooperative accepts and allows women participate in the decision making process and exercise fully their rights and obligations. These are evidenced in;

The cooperative also invests in the next generation through various trainings and projects. These include;

1. Carpentry. The cooperative has trained 11 youths

These programs have given Nyamughasana a name both at the District and the Regional level. Its no bragging, we are the leading producers of HONEY in Kasese District. To have a firm foundation, Nyamughasana has procured an 8 acre land which it has planted with Eucalyptus trees at Kibunamo – Kibathe L.C 1. We also own a double plot at Kikorongo which we hope to develop into a competitive honey center.
