BACKGROUND OF THE COOPERATIVE

Nyamughasana Valley Farmers Cooperative Society is a farmer used primary cooperative that was founded in the year 2000 with 14 members, a book and a pen. It was officially registered as a primary cooperative at National level in 2010 as reg. No 9464/RCS. Ever since its initiation, the cooperative has attracted 534 members of whom 241 are women and 302 are men. Our loan portfolio now totals Ushs.164 millions, Honey production stands at 6.4 tonnes, coffee at 12 tonnes and Castor oil at 4 tonnes annually.

To show case to the improvement in the population of the bees forage, Nyamughasana has planted 8 acres of Eucalyptus trees at Kibunamo, Kibathe village here in Kyondo – Sub county. In addition to the Musasa premises, we have secured a second plot at Kikorongo for the advancement of the honey market. We hope Kikorongo to be our Honey center in few years from now.

Nyamughasana Head offices are at Musasa Trading Center, in Kanyatsi Parish, Kyondo sub-county. Musasa Trading center is just adjacent to Kyarumba Town council.  This is approximately 45km from Kasese town. Our operation area covers the subcounties of Kyondo, Kyarumba, Kyarumba town council, Mahango, Kisinga, Kisinga town council, L.Katwe, Munkunyu and but not limited to Nyakiyumbu.

The cooperative is managed under different committees, the main one being the Board. This appoints the manager and the subsequent staff for the day to day running activities of the cooperative. The cooperative offers trainings to its staff and members at large. For instance, 11 youths have already finished their training in basic bee keeping and how to make bee hives. The farmers are always trained how to attain and improve on their quality. This has matured to creation of Farm Field Schools where farmers learn from each other and the cooperative currently has 9 Farm Field Schools. More so, the staff and some members attend external trainings organised by our partners like Bunyangabo Bee Keeping Cooperative (BBC), SATNET, TONADO, WW and KDLG.
